Stairs and Activity Sets

Tomorrow is the day. It will be Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. Ah, what a special day. Oh wait, why would I want to celebrate the day with the least amount of daylight? No, tomorrow is a special day because it is moving day. We’ve spent the last several days packing boxes and taking them in carloads and truckloads to the new house. (THANK YOU, Mom and Dad and Mike, for all your help this weekend.) Tomorrow morning the professional movers come to get the furniture. Tomorrow evening we go there to stay.

Our little family made a visit to the new house this evening. This was the first time Luke got to roam free, since only recently has the flooring been installed and the house been cleaned up so it no longer resembles a construction zone.

He discovered the stairs, and approximately three seconds later, he figured out how to climb them, over and over and over.

Hmm, going down also looks like fun. Don’t worry, Mommy won’t let that happen anytime soon.

This weekend, my mom and dad brought Lydia and Luke a Little People Nativity Set, which Lydia calls the “Activity Set.” It was nice to have it as a distraction from the fact that most of the other toys were already packed away.

I can hear Lukie now, “Itsph!!”

Today after church, Lydia very excitedly told me, “Mommy, my teachers have an activity set, too! But that one doesn’t have the shepherds. And the angel is a girl, but she doesn’t have a bow in her hair.”

At Sunday School, besides playing with her teachers’ Little People Nativity Set, she also received a sticker nativity set to take home. She put Baby Jesus, Mary, and Joseph in the stable and said she was putting them “in Bethlehem.” When I noticed the sticker set didn’t have any shepherds, she took care of that little detail by bringing over some from our own Little People set. Problem solved.

We probably won’t have internet for a few days, and then it will be Christmas, and there will be lots of boxes to unpack and kitchen utensils to find. I’m not sure when I’ll be back here to post again, but I’ll give you a full tour of the new house when I do. Merry Christmas!

I’m sure we’ll be making several more trips back to the old house tomorrow to pick up more stuff that didn’t get packed, but I think we’ll be ready for the movers to come get the big stuff.

We’re both getting a little sappy at times thinking of all the “lasts” in this house, but it helps to think of all the “firsts” coming in the new house.

Like today, example, Luke had his first poopy diaper change at the new house. Ahhh, the memories are starting already…

I hope you all had a thrilling Christmas season. I can’t wait to see the new house. It looks like the kids are already enjoying it. How nice it is to take pleasure in the simple things.
