When Lydia gets on a kick, it can last a while. She first saw the 1964 Rudoph the Red-Nosed Reindeer cartoon at Nana and Poppy’s house sometime in December. She really can’t tell you too many details from this show, even though she watches it pretty often at their house. She knows about Rudolph, Clarice [...]

I’ve been giving Lydia a toothpick to use while eating lunch. It’s fun for picking up pieces of turkey, cheese, and olives. The other day she stuck it in her sippy cup and said, “Look, it’s a birthday cake for a one-year-old!”

Some days I really think I must be crazy for wanting to move. Tuesday was one of those days. My helper neighbor girls came over and played with Lydia in the backyard. Before I knew it, they were organizing a leaf-jumping event. Brilliant.
My very cautious daughter wasn’t sure how to jump into a pile of [...]

This evening Lydia and I went to an event featuring Little Riding Hood at our local nature center. Little Red Riding Hood had received instrutctions from her grandmother to collect items from the woods at night. She was a little scared to go by herself, so she had a group of 25 people go with [...]

Happy third birthday to my sweet girl Lydia! I struggled some with what theme to use for her birthday party, not because it was hard to think of something she would enjoy, but because she is interested in SO many things. At first I thought we would go with a Dora the Explorer theme, since [...]

This morning in our backyard, we had a few golden moments of perfect photography light. I went outside to take a few pictures of the garden, but it wasn’t long until these photos happened, too.
These short-stemmed pink flowers are not a prop. They are a frequent accessory for my sweet 2.95-year-old. You see, Lydia’s philosophy [...]

Well, and everyone else, too.
The other day Keith caught Luke being extra cute. I tried to pare down the pictures included here, but it was an awfully hard job.
While Luke was being so silly, Lydia was very busy doing some serious work - cutting up ads.
Oh, and we now have stairs in our new house!
We [...]

When Lydia was about nine months old, we started introducing baby signs to her. Baby signs is a way babies and toddlers can communicate with their parents before they can talk. We used an earlier version of this book (Baby Signs: How to Talk with Your Baby Before Your Baby Can Talk) to guide us.
Lydia’s [...]

Lydia has been sleeping in her crib a long time. Two years and 10.5 months, to be exact. We have never had a very compelling reason to convert her crib into a toddler bed, and my favorite book about sleeping (Sleeping Through the Night: How Infants, Toddlers, and Their Parents Can Get a Good Night’s [...]

The other day, Lydia touched the refrigerator light bulb. I’m not sure how long her finger was on it, but she screamed and thrashed and around, and I finally realized she had a blister on her finger. Not many people can say, “I burned myself inside a refrigerator.”
Anyway, after a while she wanted a Band-Aid [...]
